Why We Are Here

"Each child has a heart-warming story."

Each child has a heart-warming story. These stories fuel efforts to recruit adoptive and foster families who can provide nurturing and stable homes for Bay Area children. Bay Area Homes for Kids highlights stories of foster and adoptive families and helps bring families together with children in need.

The need to recruit more adoptive and foster care families in the Bay Area is crucial. There are more than 9,100 children in the Bay Area who need to find a safe and caring family. Yet the number of available homes is declining dramatically each year. “We’re in desperate need of finding homes for foster and adoptive children,” says Kristy Lamore, a recruiter for San Mateo County. “In many situations, what we have to do is send these children to homes outside of their county. Relocation only worsens the situation. It uproots children from familiar surroundings and forces them to change schools, and, consequently separates them from friends,” says Lamore.
