Face of Foster Youth: Bay Area Heart Gallery Exhibit Launched
By: Jennie Hwang
The Bay Area Heart Gallery is a fantastic new venue to visually tell a foster youth’s stories in an artistic and heartfelt manner.
Over 50 professional photographers across 8 Bay Area counties have volunteered their time and talents to capture the visually stunning images of children and youth whose story will be told through their lenses.
Heart Galleries across the country share the common theme of recruiting adoptive and foster families by creating striking exhibits of professional quality photographs of children waiting for adoption. The Bay Area Heart Gallery is the first of its kind, visually and logistically. This Heart Gallery will not only feature children waiting for adoption but will also highlight the needs of older youth, who are seeking a lifelong permanent connection to support them in their transition into adulthood. Heart galleries throughout the United States have proven extremely successful in increasing public awareness of the need for adoptive homes. Most importantly, Heart Gallery exhibits have resulted in permanent homes for children and youth in foster care.
Unique to the Bay Area exhibit will be photographs of adoptive and foster parents from throughout the region, reflecting the diversity of adoptive families and to inspire others to come forward. Other participating counties include Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Sonoma Counties; partners also include the California Department of Social Services, Rohnert Park District Office and private foster care/adoption agencies.
